- Open perplexity.ai or the Perplexity app.
- Type a clear, specific question in plain language.
- Read the answer and open the sources to check them.
- Ask follow-up questions in the same thread.
- Review Account settings → Preferences → “AI data retention” (on by default).

Free or paid?
Free plan: yes. search with citations, limited daily use. Paid: the lowest price we could verify on the official pricing page is $17/month (other plans may exist).
Privacy setting to check
Account settings → Preferences → turn off “AI data retention”.
